Flame Retardants

Xyris Technology has developed flame retardant masterbatches and compounds for deep underground mining applications. These include systems for woven textiles as well as injection moulded and rotomoulded products. Our products comply with the NCB 245 flame retardancy and NES 713 smoke toxicity requirements set by the Chamber of Mines. Most are based on flame retardants from Israel Chemical Industries, etc. One of our achievements is the commercial use of heavy-metal free synergists for bromine in a number of applications.

Xyro-Flam Description
PE-VT High performance flame retardant masterbatch for PP fibers, sheets and tapes. This masterbatch is a heavy-metal free formulation. Suitable for NCB 245 and NES 713 requirements. Currently used for flame retarded woven PP cloth fabric used in coal mining as vent curtains.
PE-F 66 FR masterbatch for polyethylene films, sheets and mouldings. Stable up to 280 degrees celsius. Films made using 8% add-on of Xyro-Flam PE-F 66 passed UL 214. The main current application is for PP battery box mouldings.
PE-FB 66 Flame retardant masterbatch for polyethylene and propylene applications including mouldings, films, sheets and tape extrusion. Can be processed up to 240 degrees celsius. Improved formulation with respect to PE-F and PP - B.
PE-DPIB Flame retardant, PE-DPIB is a masterbatch specifically designed for flame retarding polypropylene mouldings, films, tapes and fibers. Maximum processing temperature is 230 degrees celsius.
PP-PBRM UV and heat stable flame retardant masterbatch for polypropylene.
NDM Flame retardant masterbatch specifically designed for flame retarding polypropylene copolymer mouldings. Available in Black or Grey.
Roto Available as flame retardant "masterbatch" or full compound for polyethylene rotomoulding applications. Stable up to 280 degrees celsius. Sheet containing 9 - 11% Xyro-Flam Roto conforms to UL 214 and NES 713 requirements. Currently used for all rotomoulded parts in South African mines.
